What to Expect

Starting therapy is a big step—and it’s okay if you feel unsure, nervous, or even a little overwhelmed. At Get Whitt Therapy, we aim to make the process feel as clear, grounded, and supportive as possible. You don’t need to have the perfect words or a fully formed plan. You just need to show up as you are.

What will therapy be like?

Therapy with me is relational, affirming, and collaborative. I won’t sit silently and nod or pretend to be the expert on your life. Instead, we’ll work together to explore what’s going on in your world—naming patterns, unpacking stories, and creating space to imagine something different. I incorporate Narrative and Collaborative Therapy approaches, which means your voice, values, and lived experiences guide the process. Our work might include grief, boundaries, communication, identity, trauma, or relationships—but most of all, it will include you.

This is a space where your culture, your family, your emotions, and your story matter deeply.

What will the first session look like?

The first session is all about getting to know each other. We’ll talk through what brought you to therapy, what you’re hoping to explore, and what feels most urgent right now. I’ll ask some questions to better understand your relationships, support systems, and history—but you set the pace. Nothing is off-limits, and nothing has to be rushed. This session is also a chance for you to get a feel for how I work and see if we’re a good fit.

You’re welcome to bring notes, questions, or just yourself.

What happens after that?

After our first session, we’ll start to build a rhythm. For some people, that means weekly sessions; for others, every other week works best. Together, we’ll identify your goals—even if one of them is simply “figure out where to start.” Therapy might include reflection, skill-building, conversation, curiosity, and a lot of compassion. There will be room for your full self here—your laughter, your tears, your uncertainty, and your breakthroughs.

No pressure to be perfect. Just permission to be real.

  • Currently, our therapists are meeting through virtual sessions. We use a secure HIPAA platform (Zoom Workplace Pro) to conduct virtual video sessions which you can access on your computer, tablet, or phone.

  • All major credit/debit cards and Health Savings Account (HSA) accepted.

  • Therapy sessions are by reservation and appointment. If a client cannot attend their scheduled appointment, they should call 24 hours in advance, or they will be charged a $50 late cancellation fee. Sessions canceled within 2 hours of the scheduled appointment will incur a charge of 100% of the session fee. Emergencies will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

  • At Get Whitt Therapy, transparency is part of the care. Under the No Surprises Act, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining how much your therapy services will cost. This applies if you’re uninsured or choosing not to use insurance (which includes all clients at this practice while I am provisionally licensed and not billing insurance).

You’ll receive a written estimate before your first session and anytime your treatment plan changes significantly. The goal is to make sure you are never caught off guard by unexpected fees or unclear billing.

If you ever receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute the charges.
