Meet Elizabeth Whittington, LMFT-Associate
Relational. Rooted. Real.
Hi, I’m Elizabeth (she/her/hers)—the founder of Get Whitt Therapy and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate in the state of Texas and I am currently working on my associate license for Washington.
I believe therapy should be a space where you don’t have to translate your experience to be understood. A space where you can show up with your full self—your grief, your joy, your questions, your culture, your queerness—and be met with care, curiosity, and compassion.
As a Black, Queer woman, a mother, a professor, a scholar, a doctoral student, and a storyteller, I carry a deep understanding of how systems shape our lives—especially for those living at the intersections of multiple identities. My work is grounded in narrative and collaborative therapy and guided by a systemic lens. That means we won’t just focus on individual “issues”—we’ll look at how relationships, culture, family, trauma, and larger social systems all interact with your story.
I specialize in working with queer and BIPOC individuals, couples, and families, especially those navigating identity development, relationship challenges, intergenerational wounds, spiritual/religious trauma, and communication breakdowns. My therapy style is warm, direct, affirming, and rooted in mutual respect. I believe healing happens in relationship, and I’m committed to walking alongside you—not ahead of you.

Outside the therapy room...
I’m also a university professor, researcher, and community advocate. My academic work focuses on how BIPOC people navigate communication and connection within relationships, and I’m especially passionate about decolonizing therapy spaces to better reflect the realities of those most often pushed to the margins.
When I’m not seeing clients, you can find me spending time with my twins, volunteering at their school, reading a good book, at a great happy hour with my best friend, or traveling. Being a single mom of boy/girl twins is one of the hardest and most beautiful experiences I have gone and continue to go through. I believe in laughter, in rest, and in the sacredness of storytelling.
A few more thoughts…
Get Whitt Therapy is a play on my last name, Whittington. I wasn’t born with this last name, but after the father who raised me passed away, I chose to carry it as a reminder of his love while processing my grief. Now, it's part of the name of my practice—something that keeps me grounded in gratitude for him and the care he gave me.
I was diagnosed with ADHD as an adult and so was my young daughter, and I have such compassion for neurodivergent individuals navigating spaces that don’t always appreciate their differences.
Balance is such an important part of life, and I tend to spend at least 45 minutes to an hour working out at my favorite gym with people who have become more like family. I appreciate being outdoors and some of my best memories are hiking and primitive camping in the Pacific Northwest.
